OAuth email settings for Microsoft

OAuth Setup in DASH

OAuth ("Open Authorization") is a method of connecting your email provider to your DASH environment. This is an alternative method to the legacy IMAP setup which was previously used in DASH for Microsoft/Outlook email settings.

OAuth provides a secure and quick setup method for connecting your email to DASH. To set it up follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Hover over Administration - located on the blue navigation ribbon in your DASH environment
  2. Click on Employee / Security Settings from the drop-down
  3. Locate the name from the list and click Edit
  4. Enter in your email address and name
  5. Choose "Microsoft [IMAP]" from the email provider drop-down and click Save

  6. Upon clicking Save, a new tab should open in your browser prompting you to log into your Microsoft/Outlook email account
  7. Click "Sign in with Microsoft"
  8. Once you've successfully logged in, your Microsoft Outlook email account will be integrated with your DASH user account.

Modern Authentication in Microsoft Outlook

Once you have set up your OAuth connection in DASH follow the instructions in this article to ensure that you have modern authentication enabled for your Outlook/Microsoft email account. See the "Enable or disable modern authentication" section on this Microsoft article - Enabling/Disabling Modern Authentication in Outlook

SMPT & Azure settings

You will also need to enable SMPT settings in Outlook:

  • Open the Microsoft 365 Admin center and go to Users > Active users.
  • Select the user, and in the flyout that appears, click Mail.
  • In the Email apps section, click Manage email apps.
  • Verify the Authenticated SMTP setting: unchecked = disabled, checked = enabled.

Then make sure the security defaults are turned off in Azure:

  • Sign in to the Azure portal as a Security administrator, or Conditional Access administrator
  • Browse to Azure Active Directory > Properties.
  • Select Manage security defaults.
  • Set the Enable security defaults toggle to No.
  • Select Save.
