Email configuration settings (IMAP)

Getting Started

Disclaimer

There are two ways that email settings can be configured: user-managed or support-provided (via Dash Start and Zoho).

  • User managed - a DASH user uses their own email client (Gmail, Outlook, Office365, etc) to configure their email functionality in DASH via IMAP or OAuth.
  • Support-provided (Dash Start emails via Zoho)- older functionality and requires the company to have been grandfathered into this configuration. We do not support this configuration unless you are the owner of an @dashstart.net address. With this configuration, we provide email hosting for the email functionality via Zoho Mail. If your company uses a Dash Start email setup and is receiving an authentication error, reach out to our Support team for assistance.

ATTN Gmail users see the "Zoho Email for Gmail Users" setup guide at end of the article. This will require you to get

ATTN Outlook/Microsoft users refer to this article - OAuth email settings for Microsoft

  • We advise that IMAP settings be set up by your office administrator, IT person, or whoever oversees your email client.
  • IMAP settings are specific to each email client (Gmail, GoDaddy, etc) and require access to the company’s email client. Whoever is setting up your email settings via IMAP can find all the information needed by Googling “IMAP settings for [email client name]” - an example would be: “IMAP settings for Gmail”.

Preliminary setup

  1. Ensure that SMTP is enabled within your email client
  2. Ensure that two-factor authentication is turned off within your email client settings
  3. Generate an app password from your email client, depending on your email client's requirements
    • An App Password is a 16-digit passcode that gives an app or device permission to access your account. You should be able to find instructions online on how to do this with your email client or contact your IT for help.
    • The app password will be used in place of the email password when setting up the email settings in DASH.
  4. Ensure that these domains and IP addresses are whitelisted (added to the approved list) within your email provider. If you do not have an IT person to assist you with this, simply Google search "how to whitelist domains and IP addresses for [insert email provider name]".
