Referral Source / Referral Type = refers to the category of the person or entity providing the referral. Common examples include: Plumber, Insurance Agent, Property Manager, Emergency Services, etc.
- DASH Live Sync users = In DASH, this field is called "Referral Type," but in CRM, it's referred to as "Referral Source." Essentially, they are the same field, just named differently in each system and thus interchangeable.
DASH / CRM Live Sync
If your company utilizes the DASH/CRM Live Sync, it's important to understand how the Referral Source is determined based on the contact type and referral type in DASH:
Individual Contact:
- If no Referral Type is added to the contact, the Referral Source will be based on the Contact Type of the person listed as "Referred By."
- If a Referral Type is added on the contact in DASH, it will directly reflect as the Referral Source in CRM
Company Contact:
- If no Referral Type is added, the Referral Source will be based on the Contact Type of the person listed as "Referred By."
- If a Referral Type is added on the contact in DASH, it will directly reflect as the Referral Source in CRM
Marketing Campaign:
- The Referral Source will be listed as the Marketing Campaign associated with the referral.
Editing Referral Source / Type
There are two ways to edit the Referral Source / Type, depending on whether you use the DASH live sync or not:
- DASH/ CRM Live Sync
- Navigate to the Contacts section within your DASH system.
- Locate the Contact that you have set as the Referred By for the job and select Edit
- Scroll to the bottom of the contact's edit page until you see Referral Type
- Choose the desired Referral Type for the contact
- Once it has been updated, the changes should sync to your CRM environment and reflect in the Referral Source field.
- Non-live sync
- Navigate to the Contacts section in CRM
- Locate the contact that is added as the Referred By on the job in question
- Under the Contact Information tab, select from the Referral Type options listed
- Save. Changes should reflect on the job in CRM.
Adding Referral Source / Type Options

There are two ways to add to the list of Referral Source / Type, depending on whether you use the DASH live sync or not:
- DASH/ CRM Live Sync
- In DASH, hover over Marketing -> select Marketing Dashboard
- Click on Referral Type
- Click Add New Record to add a new Referral Type option
- Once a new option is added, it should be available to set on a contact in DASH
- Non-live sync
- Click on your name in the upper right-hand corner of your CRM environment
- Choose Admin Settings from the dropdown
- Select Lookup Tables Management
- Select Referral Sources (for Contacts) or Referral Type (for Companies/Organizations)
- Click Add Type
- Once a new option is added you can set it as the Referral Source on the contact
