Static vs Dynamic filters in custom reports

Question

  • How can I add a filter to a report in DASH?
  • I'm adding filters to my custom report but they are not saving
  • Filters are not saving to a report

Static vs Dynamic filtering

There are two ways that you can add a filter to your custom reports:

  1. Static (fixed) filters can be added to your report in the Editing view. This is a method for adding filters that will show every time you view your custom report and will stay unchanged unless edited from the Edit report screen. Adding filters in the Edit screen is best for data that you want to filter every time you view the report.

  2. Dynamic (temporary) filters can be added to your report from the View screen. This is a method for adding filters that will not be saved to the report and must be re-added each time you view the report. Adding filters this way is best for data that does not need to be filtered every time you view the report or for filters that may change each time you view it. If you notice that your filters are not saving to your report, it is likely because you are adding filters in the View screen instead of adding them within the Edit screen. If you want the filter to always be on the report, you will want to use fixed / static filters.

Static (fixed) filtering

This is a method for adding filters that will show every time you view your custom report and will stay unchanged unless edited from the Edit report screen. Adding filters in the Edit screen is best for data that you want to filter every time you view the report. NOTE: you can make changes to these filters when viewing your as well, but the changes will not stick unless they are made from the edit screen.

To add a fixed / static filter follow the steps below:

  1. Click on Reports from the blue navigation ribbon in your DASH environment.
  2. Click "Edit" next to your existing view (or create a new view by clicking "Add New Report")
  3. Click the green button  at the top of the page to add a new expression.
  4. Any filters added on the edit screen will be saved and will filter your report every time it is viewed.
  5. NOTE: you can only add a filter to your report if it has that data as a column. For example, you couldn't add a filter for Job Status if you do not have job status added as a column first.

Dynamic (temporary) filtering

This is a method for adding filters that are not saved to the report and must be re-added each time you view the report. Adding filters this way is best for data that does not need to be filtered every time you view the report or for filters that may change each time you view it.

To add a fixed / static filter follow the steps below:

  1. Click on Reports from the blue navigation ribbon in your DASH environment.
  2. Click "View" next to your existing view.
  3. Click the green button  at the top of the page to add a new expression.
  4. NOTE that any filters added within the View page will not be saved.
  5. NOTE: you can only add a filter to your report if it has that data as a column. For example, you couldn't add a filter for Job Status if you do not have job status added as a column first.
