Create clickable hyperlinks for job numbers in BI Report

Question

  • How can I make jobs show up as hyperlinks in a BI report?

Answer

  1. Navigate to the report in BI
  2. Select Edit
  3. Go into Configuration Mode. This can be done by hovering over the report until the blue options ribbon appears, then right click on the blue bar and select "Switch to Configuration Mode"

  4. Click on the "job number" data source from the list. Then make sure you have selected Field Properties from the right-hand side. Select the More option (see image below)

  5. You will also want to add "Job ID" to the report, as the "Custom URL" feature (discussed in next steps) will not work unless the Job ID column is added. It can be hidden, but must be present.
  6. Additional Field Properties options will appear, scroll down until you locate the "Custom URL" option and select it.
  7. In a separate tab in your web browser, navigate to any job slideboard/page and copy the URL.
  8. Within the URL, replace the job number with {0} and the job id with {[Job ID]}.
  9. See the example URL below.
  10. NOTE: some environments use a different domain for DASH, so you will need to alter the domain of the URL to match your environment as it may not be the same domain as the one in the example below.

    https://dash-ngs.net/NextGear/Enterprise/Module/Job/jJobSlideBoard.aspx?JobNumber={0}&JobId={[Job ID]}

  11. Paste the altered URL into the BI custom url field and save your changes.
